Running Together, Not Just Side by Side — Tailift Volunteers Support Visually Impaired Runners
2025/11/04

This weekend, the Tailift volunteer team stepped off the office floor and onto the race track — joining the Qingshui Marathon and the Central Taiwan AT Cup for Athletes with Intellectual Disabilities as official running guides for visually impaired participants.

For most people, running is about speed, breathing, and pace. But for visually impaired runners, every step begins with trust — trust that the path ahead is clear, trust in the voice beside them, and trust that someone is running with them, stride by stride.

As running guides, our role was not to lead the race, but to become their eyes — using verbal cues, steady rhythm, and gentle direction to help them feel safe and confident on the course. We learned that guiding is not about taking over someone’s run, but giving them the chance to complete it on their own power.

We sincerely thank the parents, teachers, and caregivers who dedicate themselves to supporting these athletes every day. Their belief is simple yet powerful: “Finishing the race is not about winning — it’s about being given the chance to run.”
